Hello everyone, and welcome back to our blog. This journey continues with the famous Montalcino, located in the Val d’Orcia, province of Siena.
It’s just 25 minutes away from us, so it’s a must-visit for all wine lovers, as one of the world’s most renowned wines, Brunello di Montalcino, is produced here.
Once you arrive, you’ll find yourself in front of the Montalcino Fortress, which offers a breathtaking panoramic view of the surrounding countryside.
The entrance to the inner garden is free, while a walk on the walls costs 4 euros. From here, you can observe the hills dotted with vineyards that primarily cultivate the Sangiovese Grosso grape, the base for Brunello.
The historic center is a labyrinth of winding streets and charming squares, each with its own story to tell, where you’ll find numerous trattorias and restaurants to savor the local cuisine.
We highly recommend participating in guided tastings where you can learn about the entire production process of this exceptional wine.
In addition to its rich history and wine production, Montalcino also offers the opportunity to explore the surrounding countryside.
Scenic walks, bike rides, and horseback excursions will immerse you in the unique atmosphere of this area.
After fully enjoying the flavors of the wines and local cuisine, we recommend taking a break to admire the splendid landscapes of the Val d’Orcia.
Two must-visit stops are the famous cypress trees of San Quirico d’Orcia, arranged in a circle, and the picturesque Chapel of Madonna di Vitaleta.
See you in the next article, where we’ll talk about these two places, continuing until we reach Pienza, one of the most charming villages in the surrounding area.
We look forward to seeing you at Le Dune!
